Martin Niemöller Comprehensive School, Bielefeld

The existing comprehensive school with 1200 pupils will find a new home on two plots that are separated by a street. While the main location on the busy Westerfeldstraße will accommodate the higher classes and a public district library, the quieter location in the south is reserved for the younger classes.
Both locations use the slope of the plots to form a base that will be accessible from the streets in the north and in which the common classrooms are located. On top of the base, generous break areas are created, which are framed by the distinctive buildings of the district library and the classrooms.
The design and height of the buildings are rooted in the different urban structures of the industrial zone to the west and the residential buildings to the east. A uniform architectural language ties the new buildings together to one school.
