Exploring Wiggle Space
In partnership with Volker Staab’s Neue Museum Nürnberg, the BDA Nuremberg‑Middle Franconia‑Upper Franconia is running a lecture series titled “WER BAUT NÜRNBERG?” The series invites architectural practices to discuss their current Nuremberg projects, the underlying philosophies, and the concepts that shape them.
Patric Eckstein, our representative for school construction, will showcase the under‑construction Schulzentrum Südwest in Eibach. Using this project as a springboard, he will explore the dynamic planning process that sits at the crossroads of everyday school life and emerging pedagogical models. Drawing on both past and present school projects by Staab Architekten, Eckstein will illuminate the crucial role of dialogue with owners and users, as well as the architects’ quest for design flexibility.
He will also examine how the chosen procurement methods—an area that has gained increased focus in recent years—serve as a decisive lever in shaping the final design. By assessing the potential of various procurement formats from a planner’s perspective, Eckstein will round off a comprehensive overview of the modifiable factors that influence school design.
