Otto-Borst-Prize 2024

We are delighted to win the Otto Borst Prize for Urban Renewal 2024, which we received in the category Urban Component for the new city entrance to Kronberg at the terminus of the S-Bahn line from Frankfurt.

Every two years, the association Forum Stadt – Network of Historic Cities honours outstanding projects that preserve, renovate, convert or further develop the historic city substance.

With an new ensemble consisting of a hotel, chamber music hall and music academy, the Musikquartier Kronberg redesigns the way from the train station to the old town of Kronberg and provides a sequence of public squares and paths that structure the rising terrain. At the highest point of the site, Kronberg Academy's chamber music hall regularly stages concerts by its scholarship holders and other musicians associated with the academy.

Stolzenfels Castle infrastructure building

We are delighted that our competition entry for the design of a multifunctional reception building for Stolzenfels Castle in the Middle Rhine Valley has been recognized.

We proposed a simple and yet expressive lightweight construction to be built on top of the existing parking garage. It consists of six half-barrels mounted on external supports, which open up towards the Rhine and the palace park. This structure leads to an unmistakable silhouette that stands out from the local buildings and is read in the context of the romantic castle grounds, the church and the architecture of the landscape park.
Thanks to their apex height, the spatially connected aisles of the building are just as suitable for storing plants in winter as they are for a variety of uses in the summer season. The southern aisle is designed as a weather-protected open front area that can be used regardless of the building's operation. From there, you enter the glazed part of the reception building with two narrower aisles for a small café with information counter and an adjoining room. The southern aisle is designed as an open front area that can be used independently of the building's operation. Using mobile cabinet elements that can be coupled and locked between the barrel vaults, the room areas can be subdivided and arranged for the desired use.
The chosen Zollinger construction is made up of small, identical wooden elements. The prefabricated elements are inexpensive, easy to transport and dismantle. The simple components form a vaulted structure that is supported on edge supports and spans the space effortlessly due to its low weight.
In order to harmonize the open parking lot façade of the existing building with the lightweight structure, it is clad with translucent perforated metal panels whose perforations overlay the heaviness of the existing building.

The foundation stone for the second construction phase of one of the largest school buildings in Bavaria was laid in glorious weather.
The project is being implemented in three construction phases to enable a successive move from the existing building to the new building while school operations continue. In the first phase, the two gymnasiums were completed. The school building will house the Sigmund-Schuckert-Gymnasium and the Peter-Henlein-Realschule with a total of around 2,500 pupils.

A film about how sacred architecture embodies the human urge to give meaning and understand existence itself, or simply anything.
Long takes, combined with music by Wolfram Oettl, draw you into a surreal trance.

Navigating N-Dimensional Design Spaces

Excited to have presented our paper "SearchField - Navigating N-Dimensional Design Spaces" at the AAG 2023 conference in Stuttgart. It came out of a collaboration between Staab Architekten and the Department of Structural Design and Engineering at the University of the Arts Berlin. Our research focuses on design space exploration, empowering designers with an intuitive approach and integrating key performance factors into the architectural design process.

We are pleased to receive the 1st prize for the Protestant School Neukölln.

Situated on the periphery of the expansive Alter St. Jacobi cemetery the Evangelische Schule Neukölln is embarking on the construction of a novel edifice designated for its upper school.

The design process, conducted through an interactive workshop, aimed to conceive a sustainable school building that harmonizes with the surroundings. It was imperative to respect the status of the cemetery wall as a heritage-listed feature, while seamlessly integrating within the precinct of the listed garden monument and the neighboring urban residential landscape.

We are pleased to announce that the Casals Forum has received an award from the Association of German Architects.
The plaques are awarded every five years. Ten projects received the award for 2018-2023.

An ensemble consisting of a chamber music hall, academy and hotel was built between Victoriapark and the S-Bahn station in Kronberg, providing Kronberg Academy with optimal conditions for the musical training of young talents from all over the world. The new buildings, integrated into the rising terrain, are grouped around a public urban space, at the highest point of which the concert hall lays with its far-reaching roof. Its all-round glass façade allows views right into the free-form concert hall.
