As the tallest and only office building, this project will be the most striking on Otto-Weidt-Platz, which is the central city square of the Europacity development close to Berlin’s main station. It presents itself towards the square as a large slab while its perimeter building’s height is adjusted to the adjacent residential developments. By foregoing the staggered design as intended in the development plans the building gains an autonomy and clarity without neglecting its contextual integration. The required office space is met by widening the building segment on Heidestraße, which also creates the possibility for combi-offices. The restaurant with its exterior terrace profits from the squares quality while business traffic is handled separately on Heidestraße.
The traditional tripartition of base, middle zone and roof is the design’s underlying principle for the gradual refinement of the façade. The width of the prefabricated concrete elements is reduced towards the top and replaced by anodized aluminum frames. This refinement achieves its most striking effect towards Otto-Weidt-Platz. Here the building’s appearance transitions from a strong base to a finely articulated high-rise façade.
