Federal base sabre fencing Read more

The Norbert-Gymnasium on the listed Knechtsteden monastery grounds is to be expanded into a federal saber fencing base. To this end, a three-field fencing hall and a sports and swimming hall are to be built. The monastery was founded in the early 12th century, expanded into a baroque monastery complex in the 17th century and extended by two sports boarding school buildings in 2008 and 2012.
We divide the required areas into two buildings, whose entrances face each other and yet form a separate address for the sports high school and the federal base. Through the placement of the buildings, the paths of the two user groups are disentangled and suitable outdoor spaces are assigned to the uses. The gymnasiums are given a base of slurried recycled brick walls, above which a band of industrial glass provides glare-free light. The halls are spanned by wide-span wooden folding structures.
