A new campus square links the new buildings in front of the castle complex with the existing art academy. At the same time, it serves as an interface and showcase of the university to the city. The square is defined by a compact community building with a gallery, cafeteria, event hall, and workshop and studio building structured by courtyards and terraces. Its open square edge provides a view of St. Bartholomew's Church behind it. With massive plinth zones and light wooden superstructures, the new buildings blend into the small-scale surroundings. The rooms group around squares, terraces, and courtyards and benefit from the visual references to one another, offering a variety of possible uses both indoors and outdoors. Wide-span ceilings and the reduction of the supporting elements to a column grid in the workshop base and the two-story studio superstructures allow flexibility and the changing appropriation of the spaces.
