The combination of a vertical structure and a single-storey building reflects both the functional requirements of the accommodation and the context of the neighbouring buildings.
The public areas for in-service training and communication are housed in the single-storey structure. The integrated garden spaces and extended corridors offer a pleasant working atmosphere and places for informal communication.
In the vertical institute building, the inter-disciplinary cooperation between biological research and scientific computing is cast into an architectural form. The laboratory areas and the areas for scientific computing are grouped together and linked via the common access and communication area.
