German Pavilion: Convertible City
The 10th Venice International Architecture Biennale 2006 'Cities. Architecture and Society' addresses the changes in urban life at the beginning of the 21st century. Under the title 'Convertible City', the German contribution examines the transformation and conversion of existing urban situations. Exemplary projects illustrate the exciting densification and transformation of architecture and urban fabric as well as the sustainable use of existing potentials. With a temporary staircase and terrace construction, the Commissars General Armand Grüntuch and Almut Ernst are transforming the German Pavilion into an exhibit itself for the duration of the exhibition.
Staab Architekten are represented with the Albertinum in Dresden. The new building for the depot, which spans freely over the courtyard, covers the new center of the museum and enables improved internal routing and networking into the city.
