German Urban Planning Prize – Commendation

The Deutsche Städtebaupreis (urban planning prize), awarded by the German Academy for Urban and Regional Planning, honors projects that make sustainable and innovative contributions to urban design culture. It is not often that a single building receives an award.
However, the LWL-Landesmuseum, located at the Domplatz in Münster, offers a broad spectrum of different urban spaces that are used by both museum visitors and passers-by. With a series of four public courtyards, the museum interweaves with the city to create an unmistakable place where the interest for art and urban diversity meet.

The LWL-Museum of Art and Culture« in Münster received an award for exemplary buildings in Nordrhein-Westfalen, which is presented every five years by the local chamber of architects. The project connects the shopping street Rothenburg with the cathedral square in Münster through four public courtyards, complementing the new museum building with a complex offer of public places.
