Interview with Volker Staab

The city of Baden-Baden, the Frieder Burda Museum and the BDA Baden-Baden/Rastatt have been organizing the Architecture Dialogue series for ten years. This time, the focus lies on the architectural work of Volker Staab, who will talk about his personal career and the most important buildings of his office. A further topic will be his view of the architectural development of Baden-Baden, which has been a World Heritage Site along with ten other European spa towns since 2021.

The discussion will be moderated by cultural journalist Amber Sayah.

Nico Weber and the director of the Bauhaus Archive, Dr. Annemarie Jaeggi, present a rough cut of their film about the Bauhaus Archive at the Ark Rex architecture film festival. The film highlights the work of the Bauhaus Archive team with the world's most important collection on the Bauhaus and follows the construction site for the extension and renovation of the building in Berlin over several years.

Excited to have presented our paper "SearchField - Navigating N-Dimensional Design Spaces" at the AAG 2023 conference in Stuttgart. It came out of a collaboration between Staab Architekten and the Department of Structural Design and Engineering at the University of the Arts Berlin. Our research focuses on design space exploration, empowering designers with an intuitive approach and integrating key performance factors into the architectural design process.

We are pleased to receive the 1st prize for the Protestant School Neukölln. 

Situated on the periphery of the expansive Alter St. Jacobi cemetery the Evangelische Schule Neukölln is embarking on the construction of a novel edifice designated for its upper school.

The design process, conducted through an interactive workshop, aimed to conceive a sustainable school building that harmonizes with the surroundings. It was imperative to respect the status of the cemetery wall as a heritage-listed feature, while seamlessly integrating within the precinct of the listed garden monument and the neighboring urban residential landscape.

We are pleased to receive the 2nd prize for the Natural History Museum in Berlin. Parts of the museum were to be expanded, reorganized to be barrier-free, and restored in accordance with historical preservation guidelines. Additionally, the entrance area of the museum was intended to be made more inviting. 

Our design concept involves touching the impressive existing buildings as little as possible and adding a contemporary layer that can be filled with a variety of functions and exhibits, resembling an exhibition shelf. The new addition makes the museum's fascinating offerings more tangible while providing all the necessary functions for the smooth operation of the facility.
All elements are assembled from a basic framework of delicate wooden elements that are self-supporting and can be adapted to the desired function through various fillings. The structure is designed specifically for each location and yet can be seen as a cohesive intervention.

We are pleased to announce that the Casals Forum has received an award from the Association of German Architects. 
The plaques are awarded every five years. Ten projects received the award for 2018-2023.

An ensemble consisting of a chamber music hall, academy and hotel was built between Victoriapark and the S-Bahn station in Kronberg, providing Kronberg Academy with optimal conditions for the musical training of young talents from all over the world. The new buildings, integrated into the rising terrain, are grouped around a public urban space, at the highest point of which the concert hall lays with its far-reaching roof. Its all-round glass façade allows views right into the free-form concert hall.
